The IAI's MBT division Fireball is a 120mm guided mortar bomb with extended range suitable for 121-caliber mortars. It has a dual seeker combining semi-active laser homing and GPS-based guidance. Its special aerodynamic design provides almost twice the range of conventional 120mm mortar projectiles (approx. 15 km).
The Fireball is intended for surgical first strike capability even in urban areas where it uses a steep dive angle to minimize collateral damage. It can use a different warheads and fuzes against a wide spectrum of targets such as soft targets (fragmentation), armor (piercing), bunkers and buildings (penetration). It can be launched from both rifled and smoothbore mortars.
